How big are African Penguins?

African Penguins are around 60 cm tall. They weigh between 2.4 and 3.6 kg.

Where do they live? Isn't Africa hot?

African penguins in the seas around southern Africa. It is very cold there.

How many African Penguins are there in the world today?

A hundred years ago there were more than a million. Sadly there are now only around 170,000.

What do they eat?

They eat small fish like sardines and anchovies. But they don't like pizza!

Why are they sometimes called Jackass penguins?

They have a very unusual cry - it sounds like a donkey.
